Spin Recovery
Beginner pilots are taught to avoid a stall, which can then lead to a spin. This is a dangerous and disorienting experience and should be avoided if at all possible. Fortunately, there is a recommended procedure for spin recovery. The following procedure is recommended for a Cessna 172 aircraft.
The memory aid is PARE:
Watch a test pilot test an aircraft for spin recovery.
- POWER to idle
- AILERONS neutral
- RUDDER on the floor opposite the direction of spin
- ELEVATOR nose-down to break the stall
